חקירת הטבח ב – "My Lai"
בשלהי 2009, האדם היחיד שהורשע ברצח 22 אנשים בטבח ב My Lai התנצל ואמר כי לא עובר יום שהוא לא חש חרטה על מעשיו.
לפני מספר ימים (מסיבה שלא ברורה לי) ה- Economist פרסם בערוץ ה Youtube שלו עדויות מוקלטות בשילוב צילומים שאנספו כחלק מהחקירה הצבאית של האירועים.
The US Army conducted its own, secret inquiry into the massacre of civilians in Son My, South Vietnam on March 16th 1968, The My Lai Massacre. Tape-recordings were made of the more than 400 witnesses. Now, for the first time, these recordings can be heard along with the photographic evidence compiled by Lt General Peers and his inquiry team.
By the time he submitted his report on March 15th 1970, Lt General Peers had uncovered damning and conclusive evidence of the worst atrocity by US infantry in any war.These tapes reveal that "Operation Pinkville" was no aberration, but rather a carefully co-ordinated attack on not one but a group of villages, by not one but two Companies of soldiers. They also reveal that there were heroes that day, men of extraordinary courage who defied the order to kill and risked their own lives to save people.
Atrocities do happen, they've happened before; but the truth has been sanitized and the lessons largely forgotten.
